what do we mean by exploring feelings and emotions?

Living with a communication difficulty can shape a person’s feelings and emotions in many different ways. Sudden changes at home, at work, in social relationships and with friends and family often have a huge impact on an individual and their family.

People have reported feeling:

• 'like my world has been turned upside down'
• 'out of my depth'
• 'overwhelmed'
• 'uncertain about my future'

As a result people can experience a range of strong emotions including:

• fear
• anger
• depression
• despair

How people cope with these changes varies from person to person and family to family. For some it is helpful to have a safe space to talk about how they are feeling and to explore their emotions, either on their own or with their family and friends.
